What to Expect?
Congratulations on taking the first step to discovering a new type of strength, ease of movement and deeper connection. If you're new to Pilates, starting at a studio can be intimidating, but don't worry, we've got you covered. Here's a rundown of what to expect:
Before Your First Class:
- Sign up online or call the studio to book your first class.
- If you are able to fill out our brief health questionnaire and waiver beforehand, please do; otherwise, plan to come 10 minutes before your session to fill out the necessary forms.
- Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing and the required grip socks (available to buy or borrow at our studio). Please refrain from wearing clothing with sharp zippers/buttons as it can damage the upholstery.
- Remove your shoes before entering the studio and place belongings in the designated cubbies as you walk in.
Your First Class:
- Expect a warm welcome from instructors and staff.
- The instructor will guide you through a series of movements, starting with warmup exercises to get you comfortable with the equipment and techniques.
- Be prepared to focus on your breath, core engagement, and intentional movements.
- Don't worry if you're not sure what to do - the instructor will provide clear instructions and adjustments to help you get the most out of your workout.
Equipment and Props:
- You'll likely use a mat or Reformer, which provides resistance to help build strength and control. Other pieces of equipment (tower, cadillac, chair, ladder barrel, spine corrector) will also be used as your experience grows.
- Other props such as resistance bands, balls, circles and rollers may be used to challenge, support and add variety to your workout.
What to Expect During Class:
- A focus on some or all Pilates Principles: breath, concentration, control, precision, centering and flow.
- Opportunities to modify exercises to suit your fitness level and comfort.
- A supportive and encouraging environment - Pilates is all about progress, not perfection!
After Your First Class:
- You might feel a bit sore (in a good way!), but this is normal as your muscles adjust to new movements.
- Don't be afraid to ask questions or seek feedback from the instructor - We are here for YOU and want to make your experience at CIRKL Pilates a positive one.
